Reconstrution does matter
Reconstruction matters because even as today people rights are being denied because certain stereotypes and because of the fact there are different. In addition to African Americans, Latinos also had problems getting their equal rights when they came across the borders. The Stop and Frisk program is an example of how African Americans and Latinos alike getting their freedom denied. Equal rights, however, goes further than just race. Both gender and sexuality play apart in equal rights. Women didn't always have the right that they have today. They have to fight for their rights just like the African Americans. Even today, the role of women is in full effect as they as they are still limited to the things they can do. People with a non-straight sexualities have their rights denied in relationships as well. People assault non-straight sexualities physically and mentally. The can only get married in certain parts of the world. Reconstruction was a time period where we were able to create our definition of freedom. So the next time you think that what happen in the past doesn't matter, think about you would feel if someone deny you of your right when its comes do to equality.
